Good news for the iPhone owners. Sling Media (company providing hardware and software solutions for streaming) released the very expected SlingPlayer Mobile application for the iPhone and iPod. The application will work over AT&T’s 3G network. Ralph de la Vega (AT&T Mobility CEO), stated about Sling Media: “They made important changes to more efficiently use 3G network bandwidth and conserve wireless spectrum so that we were able to support the app on our 3G mobile broadband network.”

AT&T performed several tests of the application since December 2009 and they finnaly optimized it to run on over 3G networks. At first streaming was only available using Wi-fi technology. They announced the release of the app a few weeks ago but the application was just approved by Apple.

There are a few things people must get used to. First is the price, as SlingPlayer costs $29.99 which I think it’s a bit expensive for just an iPhone application. Second it won’t word as a standalone app, you need to buy also a Sling Box hardware solution. The application will connect to that device and end users will be able to watch videos, TV shows and many other video content anywhere on their mobile phone. For example, a Sling Box connected to a TV in New York is able to serve a local TV show to the mobile phone of a fan located in Boston.

Here is the SlingBox Setup:

The iPhone has been showing good quality videos stored on it’s internal memory or played through WiFi but didn’t performed nicely over 3G networks so if AT&T’s traffic can manage live streaming the iPhone may be used as a small TV. iPad shall be the next step and people will be able to watch live programming on this device over the 3G networks.
I was reading a report from Generator Research and they were saying that Apple’s iPhone will command 40% of the global smartphone market by 2013.

A lot of applications for the iPhone have been created and as a top the streaming applications. I will explain you below how to get started and how to broadcast live on your using a very nice and simple to use iPhone broadcaster.

The broadcaster is based on a patent pending streaming technology, designed to easily broadcast LIVE videos as well as Video On Demand content. You just download the application, just simply connect a video and audio source to the PC and click “start broadcast”.

Step 1
Install the streaming application onto your computer.

Step 2
Open the broadcaster, connect into your account then select the video source (It may be your webcam, video camera or tv tuner card) and audio source.

Step 3
Hit start broadcast

Step 4
Once the broadcasting starts, viewers may find the broadcast by navigating to a unique URL on their iPhone. Just Open the internet connection on your iPhone and enter the stream url.

Here are some screenshots of the HD broadcaster:

Iphone streaming is a very popular concept these days and it has been discussed very intense. But what is the technology involved here? Well this feature allows producers and not only to broadcast their live shows to iPhone users over 3G or WiFi internet connections. Basicly all you have to do as a user is to access the application in the mobile Internet browser and this way you will be able to browse live videos.

I was reading in April 2009 an article published by Nielsen were they were estimating (in terms of the entire iPhone market) about 6.4 million of iPhone users in the USA compared to only 2.1 million in 2008. And the big news is that 37% are active users watching videos on their phone so more and more companies distributing streaming media are having this on their must have apps.

Livestream announced lately that this feature is available on their website, with the broadcaster they offer. They didn’t know we were way ahead with this development and and neither about the press release we published.

Basicly we offered the TikiLIVE iPhone Broadcaster about a month before they did. Tiki broadcaster is based on a patent pending streaming technology, designed to easily broadcast LIVE videos as well as Video On Demand content. You just download the application, just simply connect a video and audio source to the PC and click “start broadcast”. Once the broadcasting starts, viewers may find the broadcast by navigating to a unique URL on their iPhone.

Each broadcast may be recorded to the TikiLIVE server network as a video on demand and added to the TikiLIVE iPhone Broadcaster VOD gallery.

For more information feel free to post your comments for me.
