HP Slate to compete the iPad
First iPad commercial launched during the Oscars has been frequently discussed in the online media community for a few days now. They are not gaining all the attention as rival HP has launched an iPad alternative.
The new tablet is called the Slate and seems to offer a full touchscreen and zooming capacities. Big and clear icons allow a fast browsing experience and running applications such as Pandora and a music player. They speculated a few things which the iPad doesn’t support yet, such as Flash and Windows 7. The design is a lot similar to the iPad and the Slate may be a solution for those users preffering a Windows based platform.
Phil McKinney (Vice President at HP) stated: „With this slate product, you’re getting a full Web browsing experience in the palm of your hand. No watered-down Internet, no sacrifices.”
The HP company just posted a video where they present the Slate’s capabilities, focusing on Flash support. Have a look at the video below:
We don’t have all the information about the official launching date but HP announced the device will be available later on this year. They had this concept ready since 2008 but releasing the product at that time was not a good idea as the cost of it would have been around $1,500.
Here is a video where Phil McKinney talks about the Slate’s history:
