Online video is growing in popularity month by month and comScore published new statistics. In the US, viewers watched 12.7 billion online videos during November 2008 and in December 2009 178 million people watched over 33 billion videos, so more than double.

Pew Internet & American Life Project conducted a survey from March 26 – April 2009 and seems like video watching grows across all age groups, here is the percentage of internet users in each age group who watch videos on video-sharing sites.


The big numbers in December shows an ascendent trend with YouTube leading and Hulu coming on the second place. Stability is the word defining the top because YouTube is the distant leader for a very long time then the other players are sharing the remaining part of the pie. Here are graphs about the overall online video usage and top online brands ranked by Video Streams for August 2009 in the US.


Some representatives numbers about online video in the US:

– An average of 87 videos per viewer has been reported in November 2008

– Online video viewers represent more than 3 quarters of the internet users

– The percentage of Internet users watching online videos will go up to 88% by 2012

– Estimations reveal that $ 4.6 billion will be spent on online video advertising by 2013
